Film & TV Language: Editing blog task 750 Word essay

Your final analytical blog task is to find a film or television clip on YouTube that you feel has been edited in a distinctive way and write a 750 word analysis of the clip.

Scene starts at 2:40:39

I think in this ending of "The good bad and the ugly", the amount of close up shots and cuts is very well used as it creates a lot of tension between the characters as it constantly shows how they are feeling in this final duel, in this scene we can see that two of the characters that are the protagonist and helper are digging up a grave while the antagonist is pointing a gun at him, however the protagonist calmly stands there smoking his cigar despite being held at gunpoint, then later in the scene where the stand off happens we can see that the two characters are sweating profusely to show their fear, however the protagonist is completely calm as shown from his movements such as adjusting his poncho and him smoking a cigar to show how used to this he is, we can see this by his facial expression pretty much staying the same throughout the entire scene.
The long shot cuts to an establishing shot while still continuing the scene which reveals a grave yard which may connote how this is the final duel of the movie and that anyone could be in one of the graves, in the scene where the protagonist starts to walk away we can see that he has picked up a rock that he just places in the middle of the circle and in which he writes a name on, the camera is position to a way in which we cannot see the name the is written on the rock he starts to back away and the character start to understand that this is going to be a duel. Before the duel starts we see that the helper is being watched by the antagonist which connotes how the antagonist trusts the protagonist to not shoot him while preparing for the duel however he watches the helper as he know that he might "play dirty" and shoot him as the first chance he turns his back around. Through the establishing shot we see the distance that there is between the characters to connote how despite them being in a life of death situation, they are willing to die in a fair fight thus retaining their dignity and honour. When the extreme close up shot on their revolvers are shown we can see also see the different feeling of the men just by their hand movements, we can see that the antagonist and the helper's hand has some sort of movement whether it be them shaking in fear or just preparing to reach for their gun, however the protagonist's is completely still which connotes his focus as if he was a "dead eye" of sorts.
During the closeups we get to see each character's face and how everyone but the protagonist is sweating, we also see how the other character's eyes are moving around while the protagonist is completely still and is just squinting his eyes to connote his focus on his target. When they shoot each other we see that the helper and the antagonist both somewhat struggle to keep a steady hand when grabbing their guns, however we can see the
protagonist move with the least amount of movement compared to the other characters while still being the fastest out of the two. In the ending we can see the helper struggling to shoot his gun at all and the protagonist slowly cocks his gun once which causes the helper to flinch which connotes his fear of the protagonist and his shooting skills and we see how the open grave was meant for the antagonist from how he crawls into it , we also see that the antagonist tries to get another shot despite being fatally injured which reinforces his antagonist behaviour of trying to get a dirty shot on the protagonist, however the protagonist shoots him without even looking at him showing how skilled he is in his marksmanship and how he shoots the antagonist's hat and gun to connote how he wants nothing to do with him as the antagonist tried to kill both of them and also try and shoot them despite losing the duel and dying, however in a way the protagonist is being honourable by somewhat giving the antagonist a burial as he buries him with his gun and hat.
