Film & TV Language: Sound analysis tasks

Image
  1) Find a film clip on YouTube that uses sound in an interesting way. Analyse the use of sound, making sure you use the key language we have learned about sound in film: Diegetic and non-diegetic sound Parallel and contrapuntal sound Sound bridges Remember to discuss/analyse all the different types of sound present in the clip: Music Dialogue Voiceover Sound effects You also need to  highlight  or put in  bold  any use of media language. Diegetic sounds: The dialogue in the scene is used to talk between the characters, in this case, it is to insult or intimidate them, another main use of the dialogue is the sounds that they make whether it is to convey pain or effort in a punch or swing. These are sounds that can be heard by both characters and the audience which makes the sound  diegetic. The sound effects of being hit with metal bars, punches, guns being loaded, etc. are all heard in this clip to convey an action or someone being hurt in this clip, the impact of these sounds em

Film & TV Language: Sound video feedback and learner response

  1) Type up your feedback from your teacher. -Interesting choice of music, I thought that the music changed but it was actually part of the song, transition worked very well with the sound. Worked very well for the second half for the contrapunctual sound -Eminem's scene did not work as well in terms of parallel sound -Aside from sound, very impressive editing synced with the beat of the song 2) Type up your feedback from fellow students - you can summarise key points if several students give you similar feedback. 3) Now  reflect  on your work and write your own evaluation of your video. Write a 'What went well' (WWW) paragraph and a paragraph for 'Even Better If' (EBI) underneath the rest of your feedback. I think the song went with the clip maybe even both clips, however, I did make a second video which followed the criteria much much better however it got deleted from youtube. However the current video did go along with the criteria somewhat, however a specific

Film & TV Language: Sound notes and practical task

Image
1) Choose a  60 second piece of music   - it can be a film score or a song, it is up to you. 2) Using editing software (Windows Moviemaker is fine but Adobe Premiere is available on Media PCs or at home if you are able to use it) produce a one-minute montage of images and video. Half the images need to be parallel to the music and half need to be contrapuntal. Think carefully about how you can best select images and video to have a significant impact on the audience. 3 ) Upload the finished video to YouTube and embed it in your own blog with a brief description of what you've created. Note: due to videos occasionally being blocked on copyright grounds, please also save the exported video file (e.g. MP4) into your student folder on the M: Media Shared drive. 4) Present your video to the class next week, explaining the thinking behind your work.

Film & TV Language: Lighting

Image
  1) Still image analysis Look at the still images on slides 33-37 of the Film Language Powerpoint linked above. Copy the photos into your blog and answer the following questions for each image:      1. Identify examples of high and low-key lighting.      2. Say which depicts the top, back or underlighting.      3. What effects are created by the lighting in each image?      This image uses low-key lighting as in the image lighting, in the image top lighting is used, this will create an effect of mystery as it makes the smoke more prominent which covers the actor's face reinforcing that mystery effect. This image uses high-key lighting is used and the lighting being used would be top lighting, the effect of the lighting in this image would be that the amount of darkness contrasted to the little amount of light would indicate some kind of hope for the woman. This image uses high-key lighting and uses top lighting to emphasise his superiority as the jewellery that he wears reflects

Film & TV Language: Mise-en-scene video feedback and learner response

1) Type up your feedback from your teacher in full. "Wow-ambitious, recreation and some excellent moments-expression, movement and (not mise-en-scene) accent and dialogue " "some of the props were great fun but lost a bit of realism (accuracy to the original). Highly entertaining. But one thing to think about for future coursework." "Setting was also a factor to be considered as it looked a little away from the original" 2) Use the feedback you've been given to write your own self-assessment of your video using  WWW (What Went Well) and EBI (Even Better If...) EBI: The audio was quiet, the lighting was a bit off due to the scene being in a dark room, and there were a few prop inconsistencies such as previous props appearing in the background when they shouldn't have. 3) Now reflect on your own work in more detail. How did your planning help clarify and develop your ideas? I think it helped quite a lot as I am happy with what the outcome was as it w
